One of the reasons why we do love traveling is to try the traditional dishes of each countries we’ve been. Chad & I do really explore each countries and we don’t spend too much money for our travels, but if it comes for foods, we don’t think twice, we do must try it! We stayed in Georgia for total of 6 days and it’s just a short vacay but it’s all worth it. Big thanks to Ghenies & Geraldine who made our vacation so memorable and exciting. Without them we don’t know where to go and where is the best should we go. So if you’re planning to go in Georgia Tblisi, I do recommend you to contact these persons thru their Facebook account > Click Here.

Georgia is perhaps most famous, and rightfully so, for its sumptuous cuisine.  And did you know that Georgia is one of the oldest wine regions in the World and with wine production dated back to 8,000 years ago. Many local wineries are still producing wine using the traditional methods that have been passed down from generation to generation.

After our 6 days tour in Georgia, I list some of the best food dishes that will make you fall in love all over again with Georgian foods and you really must try!

Must try Traditional Foods in Georgia

1. Megruli khachapuri

Lets start with the dish that brought us to this country in the first place, Georgian Cheesy Bread also known asKachapuri. Well I do really love cheese and who doesn’t??? This is the most delicious Kachapuri I’d ever tasted! This is good for 4-5 persons and the price is not bad at all. It’s very affordable and it has too much cheese on the inside that feels so good when you eat it all up.

2. Acharuli khachapuri

This Kachapuri is shaped like a boat that filled with egg, a slab or two of butter & melted cheese on top and also has more cheese on the inside that really makes me so addictive on this bread. Better to whisk the cheese, egg, and butter with a fork before ripping off the horns and edges and dipping them into the cheesy mixture.  Don’t miss to try this in Georgia, it’s really delicious and superb!

3. Khinkali

Khinkali, is a Georgian soup dumpling that has a meat inside and it’s one of the best food here in Georgia. My first impression was it looks like a big siomai but its really hard to eat it because of the soup inside of it. But here’s the technique how to eat it, if you know how to eat a “Balot” (a Philippine street food delicacy) that is the same way I ate Khinkali. Simple as that. 📷

4. Mtsvadi pork barbeque

Barbecue meat is very popular here in Georgia both as a family meal and also at feasts and celebrations and for an additional info, it’s a freshly cooked meat so you can taste the juice and tenderness of the meat.

5. Cesar Salad with Salmon

I admit, this so delicious and really recommendable! The salmon was so fresh even the vegetables. The dressing gives an additional good taste for the salad.

6. Ojakhuri

A barbecued pork base with baked potatoes. It’s salty and flavored like Arabic but still tasted good. But ordering a barbecue is not a joke ’cause you need to wait for 30 minutes or more.

7. Churchkela

A colorful weird candle shaped which is makes me more curious about. It was an explosion of colors, flavors and aromas and this is the Churchkela. The vendors were gracious and kindly let us sample their products. They were more than happy to explain the use of various seasons and spices such as the marigold and fenugreek powder, plum sauces and garlic salt. It was a sensory overload.

8. Lobio Beans

This is one of the traditional dish in Georgia and the cooked lobio would then be served in the clay pot, along with a flat bread.

9. Limonati (Georgian Lemonade)

If you don’t drink wine or beer, try their Georgian lemonade. It’s a non-alcoholic beverage of choice, more popular than soda and comes in all sorts of fun flavors.

📷

10. Pirosmani semi dry

It’s a sweet red wine and fine for ladies who doesn’t drink too much alcohol. (like me. lol.)

📷

11. Chacha

is a strong spirit made of the grape residue (pomace) left after making wine. And it’s really strong and can make your throat burns.

12. Georgian Coffee on the Sand

I do really love coffee and this one caught my attention, Coffee on the Sand? Well the taste was good but it will be more delicious if it’s hot. Maybe because of the weather that’s why it turns cold easily. (It’s winter when we visit in Georgia.) They also make a hot chocolate too if you’re not into coffee.

Hope this post helps you while you’re traveling or planning to go in Georgia. Please do share your stories on my blog if you’d been here or if you have any questions, I will make sure to reply as soon as possible. Xiao!
