Day 03 – 18th of December 2016

City of Love

It’s a 2 hours drive from our Hotel heading to Bodbe Monastery. The monastery is in fact a complex of buildings which includes the Basilica to St.Nino, a church, a Monastery and the ”convent” where the nuns live and administrative buildings where the shop/museum are located . It is a peaceful site and the nature surrounding it is gorgeous. There were a lot of tourists as well as workers when we visited. Our tour guide talked about the life of St. Nino. She was popular since he introduced Christianity in Georgia. As she was the initiator of Georgian Orthodox Christianity, way back in the 3rd.c. The old church is the site of her grave, and is filled with icons and frescoes in her memory.

One of my wishlist is to make an Angel snow and I’m so glad that finally my wish came true! Tadaaaa!!! Happy kiddo… 📷

Afterwards, we arrived at the City walls or City of love. The town has two central squares with casinos, banks, mayor’s office and a wedding house where one marry anytime of the day. You can get married anytime just present your passports, 2 witnesses and 50 gel, Voila! This is only applicable for couples that still not yet married so we didn’t give it a try. But I am definitely gonna try this if were not married. lol.

Ilia’s Lake

is a  handmade lake in the north part of Kakheti and the park has a playground and swimming pool but this time all of it are covered by the snow. The best seasons to visit here are fall and spring.

Later on, we had our midday meal located at the Winery in Chelti Restaurant and tried some foods there. By the way, the weather was still cold but the Restaurant has a fireplace to keep you warm.

📷

Roasted Village Chicken – 25 gel for a whole chicken and It’s a normal grilled chicken but still taste good.

📷

Local Ham – 10 gel per plate, it’s too salty and honestly,  I don’t want to try it again. Feels like you’re eating a half tablespoon of salt with touched of a fresh meat.

Wine Tour

Before we proceed to our wine tasting, we had a chance to tour around where and how the Wine makes. This is where they boil different kinds of wine and each of these container has a temperature to ensure the right taste of the wine.

📷

They also introduce us to the machines where to assemble the finished products.

📷

📷

This is the place where they make the “Chacha” wine. They make the chacha worked by a manual drill without any machine. And later on I will show you all the wine we tried.

Wine Tasting

Wine tasting is arranged by our tour coordinator and they have 2 options it’s either: 3 kinds of wine is 12 gel or 6 kinds of wine + Cha Cha 25 gel. So we all tried the the 6 kinds of wine + the Chacha.

Pirosmani semi dry – it’s a sweet red wine and fine for ladies who doesn’t drink too much alcohol. (like me. lol.)

📷

Kindzmarauli – a little natural residual sweetness, same like Pirosmani.

📷

Chelti White Dry wine – not that sweet and taste bitter. same with other Chelti wines.

📷

Chelti red dry wine – same taste as the white dry wine.

📷

Grevri Red dry wine 📷

Chacha –  is a strong spirit made of the grape residue (pomace) left after making wine. And it’s really strong and can make your throat burns.

📷

Another happy kiddo’.

When we came back to our Hotel, we order online again thru www.menu.ge for our dinner.
